$20 Projects

Being a homeowner is expensive. We just hit the one year mark of home ownership and I want to start getting things accomplished! That’s when I came up with the idea for our $20 projects.  There are a lot of little projects around the house that I have been wanting to do. If I can keep them under $20 each, then why wouldn’t we get to work?!

Here’s what we have been up to…

I found this gray faceplate in the clearance section in home depot. Similar one here: Lutron Wall Plate, Stainless Steel This wall is soon going to become a chalkboard wall and I thought the gray faceplate would look much better than a white one against the black background. So far this project is at about $6 without the chalkboard paint, but I also found some magnetic primer on clearance at Target for $5!

Next, we added some legs to our Ikea bookcase in this project. This one got us for about $17 (we found one set of the legs in the As-Is section). We are going to tackle that space above it next!

This last weekend, we power washed the garage door and added some hardware to give it some visual interest. We picked up the kit for $18! There are other plans in the works to add some more curb appeal to this garage. Get your own here: Carriage House Garage Door Decorative Hardware Set – Spear Style

Garage After

Our current project is our Ikea nightstands.  We bought the Rast about 2 1/2 years ago and finally decided to take on the project.  We will finish it up this week for about $13.50 each/$27 for the pair. We are on the hunt for some hardware though.

Bonus Project:  I don’t know if I would really call this a project, but for $6.50 we upgraded our light bulbs from the ugly curly-q CFLs to some simple white globes.  This should have been done a long time ago!
