Gift Ideas: Moscow Mule Kit – $50

The Tequila Tasting Kit I shared last week was a big hit, but today I am sharing another kit I made for a gift exchange this weekend.  My Moscow Mule Kit included all the ingredients needed for a Classic Moscow Mule: two copper mugs, two ginger beers, two mini vodkas, and 4 limes! I also included a handwritten recipe that is one I have fine tuned for the perfect balance. Tito’s is my personal favorite vodka and it worked so well in this kit with that copper lid!  There are so many ginger beer out there these days, but Crabbie’s is an alcoholic version that is the perfect mix of spicy and sweet. So many of the ones without alcohol are way too sweet or way too spicy!  I did notice a couple more at Total Wine that I haven’t tried yet, so I plan to!

Moscow Mule Kit

I picked up a shallow wood crate from Michaels’ (with a 50% off coupon) and brought it home to sand and stain. The stain is optional, but it really elevated the gift. I chose to use two colors of the crinkled paper to add dimension.

Price Breakdown:

Copper Mugs: $40 (had I planned better, I could have gotten them 20% off)

Ginger Beer: $5

Vodka: $4

Limes: $1

Total: $50

Not included in total: Crate ($3), Crinkle Paper ($2), and the stain and sandpaper which were leftover from an earlier project. Who includes the cost of wrapping into the gift? Not me!

The recipe: The Perfect Moscow Mule

To make a festive Christmas Mule, add a spoonful of your favorite jam before adding the ginger beer!

Gift Ideas: Tequila Tasting Kit -$25

My husband and his coworkers held a Secret Santa exchange with a budget of $25.  I knew my husband wouldn’t want to give makeup or something too girly.  When we were brainstorming ideas, he mentioned that his coworker likes tequila.  The obvious here would be to buy her a bottle of tequila and call it a day, but I suggested a tequila tasting kit.  It took a little convincing, but eventually he was on board. He delivered the gift this morning and it sounds like she liked it! This would make a great gift for a White Elephant exchange!

Tequila Tasting Kit - Gifts Under $25

I picked up a shallow wood crate from Michaels’ (with a 50% off coupon) and brought it home to sand and stain.  The stain is optional, but it really elevated the gift.  Now, it can be used in her home or can be re-gifted.  I chose to use two colors of the crinkled paper to add dimension. For the tequila, my husband and I went to Total Wine (the best store ever) and selected 4 silver tequilas.  The tequilas we chose had a wide range in price with full size bottles priced in  the $25-$50 range.  Unfortunately, our favorite tequila wasn’t available in a mini! We also included limes and a small tin of salt.

Price Breakdown:

Tequilas = $22

Limes = $1

Salt = $2

Total = $25

Not included in total: Crate ($3), Crinkle Paper ($2), stain and sandpaper (leftover from previous project)

Check back Monday for more unique gift ideas, including one with a $50 budget.

Make: Brown Sugar Lip Scrub

A while back, I decided to try some of those sugar/salt scrubs I had seen all over Pinterest.  I made a body scrub that used salt, lemon juice, and olive oil to name a few ingredients.  It felt great on my skin, but left me smelling like a hint of olive oil.  I found this rather odd. So, when I chose to take what I learned from the body scrub to make my own lip scrub; I made some ingredient replacements.

Lip Scrub

Brown Sugar Lip Scrub

4 heaping tablespoons of brown sugar

4 tablespoons of coconut oil (the liquid kind)

1 tablespoon of honey or agave nectar

Mix them all together and put in your favorite jar or tub. You want the mixture to appear wet, but not swimming in the liquid.  Use twice a day or as needed for silky smooth lips!
