Friday Happy Hour: The American Shandy

Ever since our honeymoon, I have been wanting a shandy.  Now that the weather is over 100, I went for it.  Rather than buying lemonade, I chose to make my own. On Monday, I shared a low- calorie lemonade recipe: here.  That lemonade will turn an ordinary beer into a shandy! The traditional shandy is probably the easiest of the beer cocktails, but it is a great option for a BBQ.

Here’s mine! Pretty close in color, but looks like I need to fill mine up more next time 😉 !

The American Shandy

2/3 your favorite lager beer

1/3 good ol’ lemonade (adjust to taste)

For the beer, I went to Total Wine and got a recommendation for Upslope Brewing Company’s Craft Lager. The beer on it’s own was delicious, but I enjoy it paired with the lemonade.  Serve in a nice chilled glass, such as a mason jar.

Want a fun twist? Replace the lemonade with a sparkling lemonade!

Mocktail Monday: Basic Fresh Lemonade

Summer is here and I’ve been craving a nice, refreshing shandy. The American version of a shandy is part beer and part lemonade. To create my own at home, I started by making my own lemonade.

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Serve over ice in your favorite glass (mine was chilled) and with a fun straw!
